International Trade in Canada

International Trade is an increasingly important aspect of the Canadian economy and one in which small business has an essential role to play. However, small business owners often do not see the opportunity that the global marketplace provides as they feel international trade is restricted to larger businesses. This notion is unfounded; small businesses are competing and succeeding internationally and Canadian businesses can do the same. What is true is that a small business’ approach to international trade is different than that of larger businesses and requires a unique strategic approach when entering the global marketplace.

Training Program for Business Professionals

The APEC-IBIZ Network International Trade Training Program is designed to assist business counselors and economic development professionals to enhance their understanding of international trade and provide enhanced assistance to their clients. The program will prepare participants to better understand the issues facing the small business community at different stages of the planning process.

If you deal with small business owners who are thinking about international trade or with businesses who have international trade potential, it is important that you understand the planning process to assist them reach their potential. This two-day workshop is designed to help participants to assist their clients explore, evaluate and execute international trade opportunities.

Employing the same interactive workshop style that is characteristic of the APEC-IBIZ Training and Certification Program for Small Business Counsellors, this workshop is designed to:

• Help you counsel small business clients through the stages of international trade development;
• Prepare you to better understand the global issues facing small businesses at different stages of the business planning process;
• Help you identify the challenges at each stage;
• Introduce you to many tools, skills and resources needed to provide guidance and support for small and micro businesses; and
• Hone you APEC-IBIZ skills in a growing area of small business opportunity
