The APEC-IBIZ is a competency-based program. Certification under the program requires demonstrated competency in one hundred and four (104) identified areas of knowledge and skills sets. As much as possible it is a self-directed program with recognition of prior learning and/or existing qualifications.
The 104 areas of knowledge and skill sets are segmented into Seven (7) General Areas of Competence or GACs. Certified counsellors will have demonstrated their knowledge and ability is each of these Areas of Competence.
Learners will be required to complete an individual learning plan, which is based on the differential between the required knowledge and skill sets and those present at the time of application and admission into the program (Prior Learning). This learning plan will be co-developed by the Learner-Counsellor and the Learning Centre Manager. In order to assist in the design of this learning plan, candidates are required to review the SKA tables and self assess their existing level knowledge and ability in each of the areas of competency.
To assist the Learner-Counsellor in the aquisition of the required skills, there are ten self-directed Learning Modules. |
